ABOUT

ARTIST BIO

Zoë Couvillion (she/they) was born in Alexandria, Louisiana.

She is now living in Denton, Texas: working as a Visual Arts Technician

and Adjunct Instructor at The University of North Texas after having lived for

a year in Athens, Ohio as a Visiting Instructor in Printmaking at Ohio University.

They earned a Bachelor's of Fine Art with a minor in English in 2019 from

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and a Master’s of Fine Art in 2022

from Northern Illinois University. Her major concentration for both degrees

was Printmaking, and her work is currently centered in methods

including stone-lithography, reductive relief-printing, blind-

emboss, collagraph, and copperplate intaglio.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Zoë's research involves the dynamics between individuality

and connectivity in both grief and celebration. Their recent work compares personal experiences to those shared in community: finding connection in the overlap.

She turns to printmaking for its ability to amplify both pattern and relationship. Printing evokes pattern in its very action: repetition in every beat of the edition—returning to a matrix and returning to the slab.

Our lives are cyclical on a grander scale, and the things

we continue returning to are those things that bring us together.

In a shared shop-environment, printmakers must find ways to work with one another, and often end up growing together through individual processes.

The result is a collective experience—mirroring lifetimes—

that goes beyond the physical impressions being made on paper.
